If you have been prescribed Champix by your doctor to help you quit smoking, you should make sure to get detailed information about dosages from your doctor. This treatment is normally recommended for a period of 12 weeks.



You should choose a quit smoking date and start taking dosages about 1-2 weeks before this date. This will allow your body to get adjusted to Champix. During this time, you can smoke but once the quit smoking date arrives, you should completely stop smoking.



Strengths of Champix



The available strengths of Champix are 0.5 mg and 1 mg tablets. You need to take these as per your doctor’s directions. The 0.5 mg tablet is white whereas 1 mg tablet is blue in colour. The doctor with whom you do a consultation can recommend whether you should take the lower dosages once daily for the first three days of starting the treatment or the higher ones.



From day 3- 7, take lower dosage twice daily, once in the mornings and evenings. You can increase the dosage to 1 mg from day 7 up to the end of the treatment. The treatment generally rolls over 12 weeks. In between the treatment period, you should regularly consult your doctor.



The dosages should be taken at about the same time every day. You can take the recommended dosage with a glass of water. There are no food restrictions relating to Champix, so you can take its dosage before or after food.

You should be extra careful while driving or operating machinery if you are taking Champix medication for stop smoking. This drug can cause dizziness and sleepiness in some people. So, it’s better to be cautious.



You should keep the Champix drug in a cool dry place where temperature is below 30ºC. The heat and dampness can destroy this medicine. You should store it in a locked cupboard away from the reach of children.
